What makes Cypherock different
With a classic hardware wallet the weakest link is human: the paper with the seed phrase, which can be found, stolen, burned or simply lost. The Cypherock X1 removes that problem – it splits the seed cryptographically (Shamir Secret Sharing) across the main device and 4 NFC cards.
Signing needs any 2 of the 5 parts (device + 1 card). You spread the cards across places – home, parents, a safe deposit box – and no single location reveals anything. Lose a card and the device, and the remaining parts still restore everything.
- Anyone afraid of a single seed paper (fire, theft, family)
- Holders of larger savings wanting geographic backup distribution
- The technically curious – EAL6+-certified chips, Keylabs audit
- Anyone managing multiple wallets (the X1 imports seeds)
How it works in practice
During setup the seed is generated and split – it never exists whole in one place and you never copy it to paper. Signing means tapping one card to the device (NFC) and confirming on the touch display. The CySync app then works much like Trezor Suite or Ledger Live.
A younger company means a shorter track record than Trezor (2014) or Ledger – fair to say out loud. The firmware is substantially open and externally audited (Keylabs). Still: with large sums, diversify across manufacturers too.
Setup step by step

Cypherock vs. Trezor and Ledger
Trezor (review) wins on openness and history, Ledger (review) on price and ecosystem, Cypherock solves backup without paper. For large sums a combination is legitimate: main savings on an established brand, Cypherock as a second wallet or for family inheritance.
✅ Pros
- No seed paper – Shamir 2-of-5 split
- Losing the device or a card reveals nothing and blocks nothing
- EAL6+-certified chips, external audit
- Manages/imports seeds of other wallets too
- Touch display, NFC cards – fast operation
⚠️ Cons
- Younger company = shorter track record than Trezor/Ledger
- Higher price than competitors’ base models
- Five components to manage instead of one
❓ Frequently asked questions
What if I lose a card or the device?
Nothing happens as long as you hold any 2 of the 5 parts. A single lost part reveals nothing to an attacker – it does not contain the whole seed.
Is the Shamir split safe?
Shamir Secret Sharing is a cryptographic scheme proven over decades. A single share carries no usable information about the seed.
Can I move an existing wallet to Cypherock?
Yes, the X1 imports existing seed phrases and manages several wallets at once – you can then safely destroy the paper.
